Agricultural plastics are an essential production tool and contribute to food security around the world. It is just as vital that their end-of-life are managed sustainably, particularly in countries where there is no collection and recycling system in place. This is the aim of the International Code of Conduct on the Use of Agricultural Plastics currently developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). Pierre de Lépinau¹, FAO consultant and former director of A.D.I.VALOR, tells us.

Towards a global treaty to end plastic pollution.

To fight against plastic pollution on an international scale, the fifth United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-5) adopted a historic resolution in March 2022 with a view to negotiating, by the end of 2024, a global treaty to fight against plastic pollution. The latter is intended to be legally binding and is based on a global approach covering the entire life cycle of plastics.

The Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee (INC) began its work at the end of 2022, with the aim of completing it by the end of 2024. Five negotiation sessions were planned. Three took place in 2022 and 2023. The fourth and fifth stages will take place respectively in Canada in April 2024, then in the Republic of Korea in the second half of 2024.

On 28 December, the INC Secretariat published a revised draft text² in light of the negotiating session that took place in November 2023. This new draft will serve as the basis for negotiations for the next meeting in Canada at the end of April.

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.
