Recycling of agricultural plastics intensifies

At a time when the economy is moving towards greater circularity, mechanical recycling is becoming an essential and strategic link in the value chain. To achieve the national recycling targets set for 2025, it is necessary to increase recycling capacity in France, which is still insufficient in relation to the quantities collected by A.D.I.VALOR in agriculture. New lines will be operational in 2024 in the SUEZ group. Plasticulture Magazine invites its readers to follow the recycling process step by step with the director of the SUEZ site at Landemont, near Nantes, and to discuss the group’s recycling strategy.

Plasticulture Magazine: The recycling plant is part of the plasticulture landscape in the west of France. How does this manifest itself?

Philippe Cheron: The Landemont plant was taken over by SUEZ in 2008. It was originally set up in 1997 to process end-of-life agricultural plastics. Although it has since diversified into other industrial plastics, its core business remains agricultural plastics. The site currently processes 23,000 tonnes a year of LDPE¹ plastics from the agricultural sector, including solarisation and forcing film, silage tarpaulins, mulch film, wrapping film and flexible irrigation sheaths. At the end of 2024, two new recycling lines will produce a total of 34,000 tonnes of recycled translucent and black LDPE granules (r-LLDPE), which will then be incorporated into new products.

Plasticulture Magazine: From the field to the integration of the recycled material, called secondary raw material, the product will go through multiple stages and change state several times. Can you describe the whole process?

There are many variations of passages of Lorem Ipsum available, but the majority have suffered alteration in some form, by injected humour, or randomised words which don't look even slightly believable. If you are going to use a passage of Lorem Ipsum, you need to be sure there isn't anything embarrassing hidden in the middle of text. All the Lorem Ipsum generators on the Internet tend to repeat predefined chunks as necessary, making this the first true generator on the Internet. It uses a dictionary of over 200 Latin words, combined with a handful of model sentence structures, to generate Lorem Ipsum which looks reasonable. The generated Lorem Ipsum is therefore always free from repetition, injected humour, or non-characteristic words etc.
