A Pioneer in Biodegradable Mulching Research,GRAB (Research Group for Organic Agriculture) is now regarded as an expert in organic vegetable farming challenges in the PACA region. As a member of IRFEL, the French association of research stations for fruits and vegetables, it focuses primarily on highly applied research, conducted on demand and for the benefit of farmers and their suppliers.<\/h4>\n

Plasticulture Magazine : What are the role and main missions of GRAB ?<\/b><\/p>\n

Catherine Mazollier <\/b>: Founded in 1979, GRAB is an association funded by public resources but directly managed by farmers from the organic sector. It specializes in fruits, vegetables, and viticulture, working with 35 \u201cexperimental\u201d farmers and operating on two experimental sites: the P\u00e9trarque Agricultural School and the INRA center in Gotheron. GRAB operates across three regions, from Valence to N\u00eemes, and collaborates with local partners such as Chambers of Agriculture and APREL, as well as national organizations like the Auray-based South Brittany station.<\/span><\/p>\n

With a team of 15 people, including five dedicated to vegetable farming, GRAB conducts agronomic tests and varietal evaluations. It develops \u201ctechnical pathways,\u201d focusing on areas such as irrigation and biodegradable mulching\u2014a theme under the SOPAM project in partnership with CTIFL, APREL, and CPA. GRAB also addresses product and soil quality, pest and disease management, as well as environmental and biodiversity issues. Communication is a key aspect of its work, involving technical publications, conferences, trade fairs, and training. Above all, GRAB is valuable for its expertise.<\/span><\/p>\n
